Unfortunately, my backpack was not significantly lighter on the second day: 1) waterproof bag with our sleeping bags 2) the tent 3) food for six days (breakfast, lunch, dinner - which makes up for a substantial part of the total weight ;-) 4) some spare clothes 5) some first aid material, camera, plus other useful items (stove, fuel, ...). Although trail conditions were exceptionally dry, some sections were still quite muddy and the gaiters (6) kept our trousers more or less clean.
