Burbie Canyon, Warrumbungle NP

Most Kangaroos are not shy but are still wild, because they eat only grass, no food from humans. Some are very small (Wallabies) but grey kangaroos can be much bigger. I once walked towards a bush and I have not seen the kangaroo in the shadow. When it stood up in front of me I realised it was taller than I am. Although we have seen many by now, it is always fascinating how they jump around or sit and listen with their ears - they move back and forth independently, like radars. One evening we could observe a mother with her joey in the pouch, both grasing in front of our campsite, but it was too dark to take a cute picture. Unfortunately, many kangaroos die on the road, particularly during dawn. The cadavers remain on the shoulder to be a warning for drivers.
